Net wage in the money of the day

The line breaks at every change of currency: rouble, talonas, litas, euro. Amounts on either side of a break are not comparable without adjusting for inflation.

1990: 262.8 roubles / talonas → 2025: 1,475.2 €

Method and caveats

A wage in 1990 and a wage today are comparable ONLY in real terms, because the nominal amounts are quoted in four different currencies. The real series is our own calculation: the published net wage restated in one money — divided by 100 for the rouble and talonas years, converted at the fixed litas rate for the euro years — and then deflated by the consumer price index, indexed to December 1990 = 100. The base is a single month because the index begins no earlier, while the 1990 wage is a full-year average. Both are the average net wage across the whole economy, individual enterprises included.

Statistics Lithuania restates every pre-2015 euro figure at the fixed rate of 3,4528 litas to the euro, so an amount shown in euro for 1995 is a converted litas amount, twenty years before the euro was adopted.
