Road deaths

People killed in road accidents in a year — drivers, passengers and pedestrians counted together. A count of people rather than of accidents, and it does not include the injured, who are the other half of the same table and about twenty times as many.

The published series begins in 2000; there is no earlier data here, and the years before it are not part of it.

Method and caveats

Statistics Lithuania’s S5R034 table, whole country, victim type “killed”. Annual and gap-free from 2000 to 2025. Eurostat publishes the same count in tran_sf_roadus from 1999 — one year further back and one year less far forward — and the two agree to the unit in 21 of their 25 shared years, differing by one to four in 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Neither body states why, so the page states the difference and nothing more. Because the figure counts people, one accident can add several to a year.
